We rang in the New Year from our hotel room in Mission, BC. Depending
on who you talk to, Mission is either the furthest suburb of Vancouver,
or the first town you get to after leaving Vancouver. But it is as far
as the commuter train runs, and where we went for a quick overnight,
car-free, last minute getaway for New Year's Eve. Where we were going
was a surprise for Theresa. Not working for an entire day on New Year's
Day was a shock to Glenn, as the next full day he had off work was Theresa's
birthday - March 24th.
After our one night holiday, the rest of January simply flew by. The
huge project that was keeping Glenn and his new company, MMK Consulting
Inc. (formed in 2001), far too busy was scheduled for public release
on January 29th. In mid-January, the client decided all the graphic
design had to be redone to fit a new corporate color scheme. Even longer
hours... It came down to the wire, with last minute printing problems
and technical glitches with the web sites, but somehow everything came
together, the deadline was met, and seven months of working crazy hours
had paid off. You can check out our work at www.CompetitiveAlternatives.com.
With the main deadline come and gone, things were not over yet. Glenn
still had two additional web-based applications to complete and roll
out, plus holding the fort at MMK's office while his business partner,
Stuart, was on a five-week business trip to Europe.
At the start of February, Theresa's Uncle Winston died. Despite being
ill for a number of years, he will still be missed very much. A lovely
ceremony was held at Tsawwassen Cemetery, with views out over Boundary
Bay - if only it could have been a few degrees warmer!
Theresa was also keeping busy, given that Glenn was never at home.
Night school classes in Interior Design and Microsoft Office let her
expand her horizons, while yoga classes helped balance the academic
side of things.
At the end of February, Glenn made his first business trip since last
summer, travelling to San Jose and Dallas. The business side of things
went well, but on the return leg from Dallas to San Francisco Glenn
came down with such a bad cold that he could not fly. Rather than sitting
it out in San Fran. for a few days, he rented a car and driving the
1,500 kilometres back to Vancouver!
